The first official day of skiing is Thursday, November 29, at Lost Trail Powder Mountain. The popular ski area at the south end of the Bitterroot Valley on the Montana-Idaho border is reporting "early season" conditions with a 17 inch base at the top of the mountain and 15 inches at the lodge. Two inches of snow fell Wednesday night and Thursday morning, and weather forecasters are giving good odds on more snow Thursday.

Opening weekend will include Chairs One and Two, with discounted ski passes. No ski classes this weekend, either. This is the 80th season at the valley's premiere ski run. Keep doing those snow dances! Check the latest conditions at the Lost Trail website.
