Miranda Lambert never saw the record-breaking, genre-leaping success of Ella Langley's "Choosin' Texas" coming. But she started to get an idea of just what a massive hit the song was about to be after she began adding it to her live set.

  • Lambert co-wrote "Choosin' Texas" with Langley and songwriter Joybeth Taylor.
  • She also made a cameo in the music video, which Langley co-directed.
  • "Choosin' Texas" came out in October 2025, and has since become a massive cross-genre smash, and the longest-running No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 by a female artist ever.

"The first week it was out, when we started seeing the numbers we were seeing, I was on the road and I started covering it," the singer remembers. "And by the second weekend on the road, I moved it down to the end of my set."

"That's how I knew, 'Oh, this is a huge hit,'" Lambert continues, joking, "and I gotta follow it with my old s--t nobody cares about."

Now, she says, when she sings the song, she can see fans singing along to "Choosin' Texas" "like they've known it their whole life, and it's new."

"It's an instant classic," Lambert relates. "And that never happens."

Why Is It So Special To Miranda Lambert For "Choosin' Texas" To Be a Cross-Genre Hit?

Lambert says that "Choosin' Texas" is particularly special because it's so unapologetically traditional.

"It's country as s--t. I mean, I love it. It's throwback country," she points out to Billboard.

"Ella's influences are very much '70s and '80s country, and that's what we were going for," Lambert continues. "I feel so happy that the world is — I feel like more ears are on country music now because of it. I'm so thrilled about that."
