Woman Steals Her Friend’s Car and Damages it in Missoula

Missoula, MT (KGVO-AM News) - On January 26, 2024, a Missoula Police Department Officer was dispatched to a report of a stolen vehicle. The officer contacted the complainant who said her red Nissan Pathfinder was taken by a woman she let stay at her residence for the last few weeks, 47-year-old Dolly Evans.  

Evans wanted to buy cigarettes but when the complainant was getting ready to go, she saw her vehicle was gone. She saw taillights leaving the area and Evans was nowhere to be found. The complainant waited to see if Evans would return, but she did not. The complainant decided to call 911 to report the vehicle as stolen. She did not identify any damage to the vehicle when speaking with the officer.  

On January 27, 2024, an officer located the vehicle at a casino on West Broadway. The officer did not see any occupant inside the vehicle but went into the casino and located Evans. Evans admitted to taking the vehicle and was arrested.  

Evans claimed she had permission to take the vehicle and denied stealing it, contrary to what the complainant reported. Evans further stated she had not been in any wrecks or caused damage to the vehicle. However, the officer observed damage to the vehicle that appeared to be from a recent collision. The damage was to the front passenger side of the vehicle and rear passenger wheel. 

The officer observed video surveillance from the casino which showed Evans driving the vehicle into the parking lot and exiting. Evans was the sole occupant. 

Evans was transported to the Missoula County Detention Center. She is currently being charged with felony theft. On January 29, 2024, Evans made her initial appearance in Missoula Justice Court and her bond was set at $10,000.
