Unresponsive Man Caught With Drugs in Missoula
Missoula, MT (KGVO-AM News) - On or about April 2, 2026, at approximately 3:07 AM, a Missoula Police Department Officer was dispatched to the Magic Diamond Casino on Brooks St. for a report of an unresponsive male in a running vehicle. The male was later identified as 41-year-old John Skinner. The officer was informed that the 911 caller had knocked several times and found Skinner unresponsive.
Upon his arrival, the officer knocked loudly on the vehicle window, and Skinner woke up. The officer observed a knife sheath on the ground at Skinner’s feet and asked Skinner to exit the vehicle. Skinner was asked if he needed medical attention, which he declined. Skinner was then subject to a DUI investigation.
During this time, the officer observed the area where Skinner was sitting. On the seat, the officer observed a small ziplock baggie which appeared to be unused. The officer knows these baggies are used to transport dangerous drugs. Additionally, the officer observed a cigarette package on the seat directly where Skinner was sitting. The officer could not see any cigarettes in the package, but he could see a plastic bag. After viewing the cigarette package from multiple angles outside of the vehicle, the officer observed what appeared to be a white substance within the bag.

Skinner was ultimately arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia. During a search incident to arrest, a scale and weight were located on Skinner’s person, as well as two capped syringes. The officer seized the vehicle and applied for a search warrant.
Within the cigarette pack, the officer located a package containing methamphetamine. The total package weight was 6.29 grams. Also, within the cigarette package were numerous small green ziplock-type baggies. Within the center console of the vehicle, the officer located numerous more small clear ziplock-type baggies.
On the floor of the driver's area, the officer located a small black plastic container with magnets on the outside, which he recognized was consistent with a device used to hide items, typically dangerous drugs, and is commonly referred to as a "trap".
