These Two Phone Scams are Hitting Missoula Families
Missoula, MT (KGVO-AM News) - On July 28, 2026, the Missoula County Sheriff’s Office warned the community of recent scams that have been occurring. Public Information Officer Jeanette Smith provided the details.
“There are multiple scams that have surfaced, and we have received numerous reports from callers,” Smith said. “A few of the scams target family and friends of inmates in our Detention Facility. These could include language suggesting (then pressuring for immediate action) that you can bond your loved one out as they are eligible for a special program or for their safety.”
According to Smith, the calls may be from a blocked number and the scammers may include the name Deputy White.
“Another popular scam is to claim you have missed Jury Duty and there is a warrant out for your arrest," Smith said. "And, of course, you must pay NOW or else... The caller, claiming to be Deputy Ryan Lange, is using phone number 406-396-1228. Please be vigilant!”
Smith said Missoula County Sheriff's Office deputies, Jail staff, and civilian staff will NOT call you and DEMAND money.
“They will not pressure you or threaten you or your loved one,” Smith said. “These tactics are commonly used by scammers. If in doubt, hang up the phone and direct dial our office at 406-258-4810.”
