Trespasser Returns to Missoula Shelter a Day Later, Fights Man

Missoula, MT (KGVO-AM News) - On January 18th, 2024, a Missoula Police Department officer responded to the Johnson Street Shelter after receiving a complaint of a disturbance. The officer learned that 25-year-old Anthony Gobert was permanently trespassed from the shelter the day before after repeatedly trying to fight individuals inside. Gobert then returned to the shelter the next day and started another fight.  

Upon arrival, the officer reviewed the surveillance video of the incident. The video shows Gobert and another male standing in the ‘mat cubby’ area of the shelter. Gobert begins shoving the male and a fight ensued. According to court documents, Gobert put the male in a headlock and the two went to the ground. Staff then broke up the fight. 

The male victim declined to provide a statement. However, a female who witnessed the incident confirmed that Gobert approached the male and attacked him. The female said the two had been arguing, but she wasn’t certain why. Another witness approached and also said Gobert attacked the male following an argument. 

While this was taking place, another officer located Gobert, who was walking away from the shelter. The officer approached Gobert and took him into custody. Gobert became verbally combative and emotionally escalated during the arrest. He was ultimately transported to the Missoula County Detention Facility.  

Gobert is currently being charged with felony burglary. On January 19, 2024, Gobert made his initial appearance in Missoula Justice Court and his bond was set at $5,000.
