Problems with a roof are forcing Missoula County Public Schools administrators to cancel classes at Sentinel High School until the situation can be checked completely checked out.

Word of the closure came Monday evening after problems developed with a roof in an older part of the high school. MCPS spokeswoman Tyler Christensen tells Newstalk KGVO the roof hadn't "collapsed", but "there are issues with the roof and supporting structure."

Christensen says a structural engineer had been brought to the scene to examine the situation. But in the meantime, the district was canceling all classes and activities at Sentinel High School on Tuesday.

She says the district will send an update to Sentinel staff and families as soon as more information is known.

Sentinel went through an extensive renovation under a multi-million dollar bond issue just over 5-years ago. But not every portion of the school had been involved in the remodeling and reconstruction.

Like other Missoula County Public Schools, Sentinel had only two more days of classes, Tuesday and Wednesday, scheduled before the holiday break.
