Man Returns to Missoula Shelter, Demands to Be Let Back In

Missoula, MT (KGVO-AM News) - On December 1, 2023, a Missoula Police Department officer was dispatched to a reported trespass call at the Johnson Street Shelter. Staff advised that 28-year-old Kevin Washington was on the property after being placed on a seven-day out the previous day. Washington was not allowed back to the shelter until December 8, 2023.  

The officer spoke to a staff member who reported that Washington was beating on the shelter door and ringing the doorbell demanding to be let in. Washington yelled he was the “Missoula County Sheriff Department” and “you need to let me in the building!”  

Washington continued to scream and yell, including yelling “f**k you, I’m gonna shoot you. I’m gonna fight everyone out here. This seven-day out is bulls**t.” Washington threatened several clients on the scene as well, yet nobody has come forward. 

Washington Leaves the Shelter 

Another individual threatened to pepper spray Washington if he did not remove himself. Washington then left the shelter on foot. An officer located Washington six blocks away from the shelter.  

Another officer was in the process of arresting Washington when that officer arrived. Law enforcement noted that Washington was involved in a separate assault with a weapon case from earlier the same day that is still pending investigation. 

Washington was transported to the Missoula County Detention Facility. He is currently being charged with felony Impersonation of a Public Servant and Criminal Trespass to Property. 

This is Not the First Time Washington Has Been Arrested 

According to court documents, Washington was recently sentenced in Missoula County District Court for Threats of Improper Influence. Washington allegedly threatened to kill a staff member at the Missoula County Attorney’s Office while she was while doing her job duties. 

On November 5, 2022, Washington was trespassed from the Poverello Center but he returned and threatened someone with a knife.

Given Washington committing a new felony offense shortly after he was sentenced on a separate matter and him continuing to threaten community members, the State requested the Court place a bond on him in an amount no less than $50,000. 

On December 4, 2023, Washington made his initial appearance in Missoula Justice Court and his bond was set at $20,000.
