Man Arrested After Intense Standoff in Missoula
Missoula, MT (KGVO-AM News) - On April 26th, 2024, at approximately 8:00 PM, Missoula Police Department officers initiated contact with 46-year-old Seneca Wiley regarding a felony warrant issued for his arrest. According to Public Information Officer Whitney Bennett, the situation escalated rapidly due to the severity of the high-risk factors involved.
“Recognizing the need for specialized resources, SWAT Team Leader activated the SWAT Team, Negotiation Team, and the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Team,” Bennett said. “Seneca Wiley, unfortunately, was not cooperative during the initial contact for his arrest. Over the course of approximately 4 hours, the Negotiation Team maintained phone contact with Wiley while a tactical plan was meticulously crafted.”
Despite the Negotiation Team's efforts, Bennett said Wiley ceased communication and posed additional challenges to the resolution of the situation.

“At this critical juncture, just before 2:00 AM, the SWAT Team deployed a Flash Sound Diversionary Device (FSDD) as part of their callout procedures,” Bennett said. “Swift and decisive action was taken, ensuring the safety of both officers and the community at large. Seneca Wiley complied with instructions given by law enforcement and was successfully taken into custody without further incident.”
During the duration of the operation, Bennett said a Shelter in Place advisory was issued from just before 10:00 PM until just after 2:00 AM.
“This precautionary measure was implemented to ensure the safety and well-being of residents in the vicinity,” Bennett said. “The Missoula Police Department would like to extend our utmost gratitude to our specialized teams whose expertise and professionalism played a pivotal role in achieving a peaceful resolution to this high-risk incident. Their dedication and training are instrumental in maintaining public safety and protecting our community.”
