America’s #1 Supermarket Has 5 Locations in Montana

Inflation, recalls, mergers--there are plenty of reasons to wonder about local grocery stores and if they offer the best value and quality.

The American Customer Satisfaction Index (ACSI)  has been providing information about supermarkets since 1994, with data updated annually. Even though it's only February, they already have data available for 2024.

ACSI measures year-over-year trends for how consumers feel about supermarket stores as a whole.

For example, after the pandemic, there may be a greater emphasis on online grocery shopping which retailers may have responded to. There was a 4% increase in website satisfaction between 2023 and 2024. 

Also potentially related to the lingering effects of the pandemic, there was a 6% increase in satisfaction with the availability of merchandise (inventory stocks) between 2023 and 2024.

ACSI also measures satisfaction with specific supermarket chains. The Index measures 19 specific supermarket chains and provides aggregate ratings for all supermarkets, and "all others" or supermarkets not specifically identified. Of the 19 supermarket chains, 6 of them have locations in Montana and 4 are in the top 10.
