Watch Out for This Texas Roadhouse Scam as Missoula Location Opens
Some of the most talked about news in Missoula lately has been the progress and upcoming opening of the new Texas Roadhouse restaurant in Southgate Mall.
As we reported earlier this week, the restaurant is set to open on Monday, November 13, and the restaurant has an opportunity for certain members of the community. According to KPAX, "...before the grand opening to allow employees to train, local police, firefighters, and area hotel workers will be first to try the restaurant's steaks, ribs, and made-from-scratch sides."
But a post that's been circulating on social media recently has made people think that Texas Roadhouse is running a promotion. It says that if you share and comment you will be rewarded with a free meal. This is a scam.
Here's a screenshot of the scam:
This post is not from the official Texas Roadhouse Facebook account. The Facebook page that created this post originated on November 6, and currently only has just one post.
This is not the first time a scam like this has popped up on Facebook. Politifact, a website from the Poynter Institute that fact-checks claims on the internet, has a post from January 25, 2022, that references another claim that is nearly the same as the one above. In that instance, the post also came from an unverified Facebook account.
The fact-checking website Snopes.com had another instance similar to the two above that they wrote about on September 29, 2021. In that alert, they pointed out that "13 separate inauthentic Facebook profiles" were running the fake promotion.
It's possible you've seen the most recent post on Facebook because Missoula's Texas Roadhouse is about to open. Don't share the post and don't click on any of the links inside the post.
