Recently parts of Montana have gotten a taste of what summer will be like with temperatures in the 80s. Of course, in true Montana fashion, two days later we got snow in some parts of the state.

When the heat eventually comes, one of the best ways to cool down is a tasty ice cream cone or sundae. Montana is incredibly lucky to have some amazing ice cream made locally. Not all of the ice cream available is high quality. As a matter of fact, some of the worst-ranked ice creams are found here too.

24/7 Wall Street has ranked the 11 worst brands of ice cream and some of these you can pick up at your local store right here in Montana. According to the rankings here are some of the brands found in Montana.

  • Blue Bunny: According to the ranking they are known for using artificial vanilla flavoring in their ice cream.
  • Baskin-Robbins: Some of their ice creams can contain stabilizers, or emulsifier blends, as well as mono- and diglycerides, or cellulose gum.
  • Breyers: Some of their frozen desserts can't be categorized as ice cream because of the lack of creamy fat content that is required to be called ice cream.

  • Big Dipper Ice Cream: Celebrating their 30th anniversary this year and started in Missoula. They have been serving up some amazing ice cream for years. They also have some interesting flavors like cardamom and Mexican Chocolate.
  • Sweet Peaks Ice Cream: They are celebrating 15 years making some amazing ice cream. They started in Whitefish and have some original flavor combinations as well, like the 'Inversion' made with Earl Grey Tea, and Honeyberry Sorbet.
  • Genuine Ice Cream: One of the newer ice cream makers in Montana located in Bozeman. They have classic flavors, but also originals like Honey Lavender,

This summer when the heat is really cranking up in Montana, keep cool, but do it in style with some Montana-made ice cream.
