There are some sure signs of autumn in Western Montana. There is a change in the weather. The changing of the leaves on the trees. There is the sound that echoes through the valley "First Down Montana!" Then, there are the pumpkins, pranks, and traditions.

Missoula's University of Montana Pumpkin Is Back

When the sun rose on another cloudy October day at the University of Montana the students and faculty were treated to an ongoing tradition, a large orange gourd placed on the spire directly over the Main Hall on the university campus.

The Tradition Has Been Around Since The '90s

According to the University of Montana Facebook page this tradition has been happening since 1995. Every year it is amazing to see the pumpkin put up there. The undertaking to get it up there has to be an amazing feat. I don't have a degree in physics to figure out how this epic stunt is pulled off every year. I am sure there are some sort of pulleys, dark clothing, gloves, a map, and a pumpkin involved in the operation. At least that's how I picture it happening.

Do We Really Want To Know How They Do It?

This is one of those things where I actually don't want to know how it is pulled off. Like a good magician, I like to sit back and watch the result and not worry too much about how it happens.

Missoula, Check it Out Before It Is Gone

If you have a chance to take a walk on campus you can check it out before it is gone. Even after it is long gone, every time you pass by the Main Hall you may just want to look up and try to figure out, just how did they do that? If you know, please don't tell me.
