Lady Griz Receive Big Commitment From Top Missoula Talent Avory Decoite

Montana Lady Griz Head Coach Nate Harris took over as the official head coach on March 18th.

Between taking over in January and March 18, Harris and his staff didn't know if they would have the permanent job in Missoula next year. How could they recruit and bolster future classes for the Lady Griz?

Somehow, someway, they did and picked up their first signee on Thursday.

And it's one of Missoula's top high school talents.

Big Sky High School Junior Avory Decoite announced via Instagram that she has committed to the University of Montana to play with the Lady Griz.

It's an awesome story. Decoite is a hometown girl who grew up going to Lady Griz games and dreaming of playing for the LG.

I mean, come on. Look at young Avory on a fast break during halftime of a Lady Griz game on the old court.

How can you not be romantic about Lady Griz Basketball?

It's a huge moment for Avory and her family.

"She worked her ass off to get here," said Decoite's mom Christy Lefler. "Last year, she overcame an elbow injury. She overcame an ACL. She was out the whole end of her sophomore year because of her elbow."

"This last year was so difficult. She had to grow emotionally, physically, everything."

Hometown girl: Check.

Overcoming adversity: Check.

Griz legacy lives on: Check.

"Since she was little, this has been the spot. You know, her dad was a Griz; he played football here," said Lefler.

"It's just an exciting moment for sure."

Decoite will round out her Big Sky days next school season before starting her Lady Griz journey in 2026-2027.
