The frightening transfer portal had been treating the Montana Grizzlies well up to this point. The defending Big Sky Champs added a Mountain West quarterback, some skilled players from Power 5 FBS Conferences, and a couple of big men. Now, the Griz lost a starter on the defensive side of the ball and a young athlete to the portal.

Kale Edwards to the portal

Starting defensive end Kale Edwards announced via Twitter yesterday he is entering the transfer portal. Originally from Coeur d'Alene, Edwards spent three seasons at the University of Montana. Playing in 37 games, he racked up 62 career tackles and 6.5 sacks with most of his production coming the last two seasons. The 6-5 end had his best season last year recording 35 tackles, 10.5 tackles for a loss, 4.5 sacks and two forced fumbles - all career highs.

"Loved being a GRIZ, and had a lot of fun playing for Montana and getting to play at Washington Grizzly Stadium," said Edwards in a Tweet. "Got to know and play with some great people. Have a lot of respect for the coaches I have gotten to learn from over the years. However, I have come to the conclusion that my future is elsewhere and I am looking forward to what comes next."

Vincent Genatone to the portal

Earlier today, redshirt sophomore linebacker Vincent Genatone announced via Twitter he'd be joining Edwards in the portal. Genatone, originally from North Platte, Nebraska, played one season with the Griz after redshirting his freshman year. Last year Genatone played 12 games, primarily on special teams, and recorded one lone tackle.

Big Sky Conference Mascots Ranked on How Easily I Could Beat Them in a Fight

I came up with a random thought the other day. "If I were to get in a fight with every mascot in the Big Sky Conference, how many of those fights could I win?" For clarification: I am fighting whatever animal/person the team's nickname is (Grizzlies, Bobcats, etc.) in a one-on-one setting. No outside weapons being used, just a classic mano e mano fight.

What I've learned is I have very little chance at winning most of these fights.
