Plant Hardiness Zones Are Changing In Montana

NPR reported back in November, that the USDA had updated the hardiness zone map for the first time in 10 years.  Gardeners all over the state collectively yelled, "I knew it!"

What Is A Hardiness Zone?

Gardeners use it to figure out what they can plant in the area they live in.  In Montana, I grew up with a Hardiness Zone of 4. From the USDA:

"The USDA Plant Hardiness Zone Map is the standard by which gardeners and growers can determine which perennial plants are most likely to thrive at a location"

Things Are Heating Up All Over The World, Extending Growing Seasons

Scientists estimate that 2023's hardiness zone map is about two and a half degrees warmer than it was in 2012.  That doesn't sound like a lot, but if you are a believer in math and science, you know it is.  If you don't believe in math and science, I'm not quite sure how to explain it.  Just know it's hotter.
