Voices: Gwen Jones keeps Missoula City Council on task
Jim Wheelis
Gwen Jones is running for Ward 3 of the Missoula City Council.
City government is like farming, with its machinery and chores. A lot of things must be done, and they’re very different: street repair, school management, police work, taxes, dealing with homelessness and shelters.
That’s like keeping the crazy hay bailer going, the cows milked, the crops plowed, the fences fixed. City Council people do a lot of things at the same time, and they must be good at them. And be honest, decent people who use good judgment.
In Gwen’s two terms on the council, she’s shown she is all that.
She’s also a neighbor, and I’ve been to citizens’ meetings at her house. But just in ordinary life, just walking down the street or doing something in my yard, I’ve seen her coming and going, saw how she deals with everyone.
We’re lucky to have her on the city council and fortunate that she wants another term. I’m lucky to have her as a neighbor. Someone like Gwen makes city government and neighborhoods work right.
