If you were at Washington Grizzly Stadium nearly 20 years ago when the Rolling Stones rocked Missoula, then chances are you can still hear Mick Jagger bouncing off Mount Sentinel. That was a Montana show like none other. Now the Stones are returning in a way that none of us could've predicted. Their concert film At The Max is having a limited IMAX run starting December 10th. There are only two theaters in Montana that were chosen for this limited run:  Missoula and Billings. Not bad for a couple of towns that like to squabble over which one has the better Costco parking lot.

Where You Can Visit It in Montana

Missoula has the IMAX experience at AMC Missoula 12 on Mullan Road. Billings has it at AMC Shiloh 14 on Shiloh Crossing Boulevard. The restored version of the 1991 concert movie, which was the first full-length feature ever filmed in IMAX, will play at both theaters. And, NO, this isn't a strange AI deepfake of Keith Richards. This is the real thing. Giant screen. Loud sound.

A Stones Show, by Other Means

Watching them in the live setting at Washington Griz was a bucket list moment for fans of Montana rock. Watching them on a six-story screen is another beast altogether. The IMAX version reunites the band in its Steel Wheels heyday, shot with tech that was hot when it was new. The remastered version is even sharper. Something tells me it's as close as we'll get to being on the stage without getting Keith's cigarette ash flicked at us.

Limited Run

Showtimes are available at different times for each location, but both have tickets for December 10th. It is a short run, so when it's over, that's it. If you missed the Stones in Missoula once upon a time, this may be the best second chance ever.
