If you’ve ever driven Bear Tooth Pass, you know it isn’t the type of road where you let your hair down and hammer the gas. It’s a ribbon of highway hanging off the side of the mountain, WAY UP in the sky where the air is thin. Locals treat it with respect. Tourists? Not so much.

Exhibit A: a tourist in a luxury sports car who thought Bear Tooth Pass was their personal racetrack in a viral video making the rounds online. Spoiler alert: they didn’t win. One bad turn later, and that shiny machine was reduced to mountain scrap.

The Yellowstone Effect

We all laugh at the “Tourons of Yellowstone,” the folks who try to pet bison or hot tub in Old Faithful. Now we can add “Ferrari on the cliffside” to the list. The lack of caution feels familiar, except this time it wasn’t an angry elk dishing out the lesson. It was gravity.

The driver didn’t just wreck a car; they wrecked a perfectly good moment of silence for everyone else on the road. Imagine hiking up there, soaking in the view, only to hear the whine of a turbo followed by the crunch of “well, there goes your insurance deductible.”

A Montana Reminder

Here’s the thing. Bear Tooth Pass isn’t a for the everyday driver. Take a selfie at the top by the sign if you want, cool. But if you rip into a blind curve in your Lambo, don’t be shocked when the mountain slaps back. Montana doesn’t care how many horses you brought.

So the next time you get the itch to race your hot rod down our high-altitude highways, remember this: in Montana, the house always wins. And by house, I mean the mountain.
