Yum Brand's Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurants have made an interesting marketing decision, at least temporarily.

You know the slogan, "It's Finger Lickin' Good," right? Well, that has disappeared or is in the process of disappearing from KFC media platforms and store signage. Apparently encouraging folks to lick their fingers while eating is not in good taste these days.

Because of the coronavirus pandemic, Kentucky Fried Chicken has suspended the use of the “It’s Finger Lickin’ Good” slogan after 64 years. A prepared statement issued by the company earlier this week described it as  “the most inappropriate slogan for 2020.”

While not a frequent customer, sometimes those KFC Original Recipe chicken thighs call my name. Maybe I'm susceptible to subliminal advertising, but I can't recall ever going on a finger-lickin' spree before, during or after a tasty meal prepared by Colonel Sanders. But as we all know, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s coronavirus safety measures encourage people to avoid touching their eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands. Kentucky Fried Chicken must have decided they might be contributing to the problem and want to be sensitive to the health and safety of their clientele. Or, something like that.

The company said in their statement that putting the slogan on hold is only “for a little while," and that it will be back ”when the time is right."
