No matter which social media platform you visit (most of us have at least three social apps on our phones) you're bound to run into spam bots, and they're most active on Instagram...ugh.

Who wants this in their inbox? Yeah, me neither.

Thankfully, there's a workaround for all our friends. Whether you maintain an Instagram account for a business or for personal use, I'm going to show you how to keep a tight lid on your comment section. Spam bots beware!

*This will work on Android and iPhone. I have a Google Pixel (Android) so if you have an Apple device the layout may appear slightly different, but the steps will be the same.

Step One:

Open Instagram and tap the 3 lines in the top right, then select "Settings"

Step Three:

From here, we recommend adding words commonly used by spambots, such as the ones below. Other commonly used phrases are "Send to" "PM" "gain followers" etc.

Most bots follow certain hashtags on Instagram and their algorithms will automatically comment with pre-written messages and hyperlinks. These bots are most likely only out for two things: to use your pictures for free (content curation) or they're trying to get you outside of Instagram to a website which can put malware on your phone or PC.

Either way, this is a great start to getting only the comments YOU WANT in your Instagram posts. Happy scrolling, fam!
