How would you like to go put something down on your layaway item, only to find out it has already been paid off! It's our spirit of giving feel good story of the day. And like so many of these gestures, it was done anonymously.

This one comes to us via Associated Press from the Cleveland, Ohio, area. A man went to the layaway department of a Wal-Mart and said he wanted to give himself a birthday present. By a present for himself, he meant paying off customers' layaway items. So he covers the $70,000 tab. THEN he goes to another nearby Wal-Mart and covers another $36,000 in layaway for those customers: $106,000 in all!

Now, we recognize that just because you put items on layaway doesn't automatically mean you're struggling or having difficult times.  But you have to assume that many of the customers were probably facing some financial challenges. When a woman who had put $10 down on a bed for her 3-year-old daughter was told the remaining $80 had been paid,  she said it was like Santa had been there! Well....maybe so.
