Montanans are starting to feel the strain of rising gas prices throughout the state.

According to AAA, the average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline in Montana is currently $3.54/gal. That's a 10 cent increase compared to a week ago when the average price in Montana was $3.44/gal. Since Monday, the national average for a gallon of regular gasoline has increased by 11 cents to $3.72.

Unfortunately, gas prices are expected to keep rising and there isn't any relief expected in the near future. Many experts predict that Americans could see gas prices as high as $4/gal or more by the time summer hits. If you're wondering what the price of gas will get up to in Montana, click here.

An increase in gas demand, alongside a reduction in total supply, is contributing to price increases, but increasing oil prices continue to play a leading role in pushing prices higher. Pump prices will likely continue to rise as crude prices continue to climb.

There is some positive news. While gas prices are expected to increase, Montanans generally pay less at the pump compared to many other states in the country. The average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline is almost 20 cents less than the national average.

The highest recorded average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline in Montana is $4.20 and was recorded on July 19, 2008, according to AAA.
