Griz Football Star Will Transfer To Nebraska For Next Season
We shared a story last week where Washington-Grizzly Stadium was voted the best small school stadium in college football. And who knows.....maybe one day in the future we'll actually be able to gather in groups and watch a Griz game again! When we do, we'll be watching new stars emerge as one of the key playmakers for the Griz will be putting on a new uniform to finish out his collegiate career.
It was fun to watch Samori Toure pile up stats for the University of Montana. The wide receiver had an amazing 2019 season with almost 1,500 yards and 13 touchdowns. But Toure decided to transfer after the Big Sky Conference postponed the 2020 season because of the COVID-19 pandemic. (The season will start at the end of February and be shortened to six games.) It's been announced that Toure has found a new home as a member of the Nebraska Cornhuskers.
He'll go from playing at Washington-Grizzly Stadium to playing in one of the most iconic stadiums in all of college football - Memorial Stadium in Lincoln, Nebraska. It's a pretty awesome sight on gameday when more than 85,000 people are decked out in a sea of red to root on the Huskers. I was born in Nebraska and finally made it to a game in September of 2019. What a great atmosphere for college football! Hopefully Samori Toure can get on the field and showcase his skills for Husker Nation. I'll be rooting him on when Saturdays roll around.
Toure leaves the Griz with a bang - in one of his final games he had a record day with 303 yards and 3 touchdowns in a playoff game. He had 20 touchdowns and almost 2,500 receiving yards in three seasons with the Griz. Who will be then next UM player to step up and replace the production that is lost with Toure opting to transfer to Nebraska?
You can read more from this Montana Right Now article, including the following thoughts from UM head coach Bobby Hauck:
“Samori is a great guy and he did everything we asked him. He was here to play his senior year and it was not his fault that we didn’t play. He got his degree and now he’s on to what is next. I hope it works out for him."
