Rain, snow, fog, accidents, dust storms, critters. Driving is challenging enough without having to worry about tumbleweed traffic jams.

But AP tells us that some drivers near Richland, Washington, had to deal with a highway (State Route 240) being shut down in both directions after some cars were trapped in tumbleweeds. Our guess is some major wind played a part in the mess, as vehicles were getting trapped in tumbleweed piles as high as 15 feet.

The Washington Department of Transportation actually used snow plows to help clear the highway. Luckily, no injuries reported.

What's the strangest thing you've had to drive through? For me it was a cattle drive on an Idaho highway. Let's just say the road was a little slick.
