Montana Hunters Warned About AI Missteps Before Season Ends
As we head down the home stretch of the Montana general big game hunting season, activity is ramping up for those who have yet to fill their tags.
ARE YA SURE ABOUT THAT?
But it's not just the general big game season that has thousands of hunters out in the field, using high tech gizmos and gadgets that they think are giving them accurate information. Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks recognizes that hunting regulations can be complicated to understand, and unfortunately some artificial intelligent (AI) features included in popular internet search engines are making it worse.
According to Montana FWP, hunters have reported AI-generated internet search results are turning up wrong information for specific Montana hunting regulation questions. There have also been incidents of hunters believing they were in hunting areas open to the public, only to have irate landowners tell them otherwise.
IT'S ON YOU
Ultimately, it’s every hunter’s responsibility to know and understand the regulations. Montana hunting regulations can be found at any license provider or FWP office in the state. They can also be accessed readily ONLINE. If you’re using your mobile device, it’s very simple to download hunting regulations for reference when you’re out of cell or internet service.

If you use internet searches to answer hunting regulation questions, take the time to double check the answers with the actual regulations. If you run into any questions, you can always call any FWP office.
We hope everyone is having a safe, successful, responsible hunting season. And good luck to those of you still trying to get some meat in the freezer.
