The Missoula County Attorney’s Office filed 18 new felony criminal complaints last week. According to County Attorney Kirsten Pabst, five of those cases involved interpersonal violence.

“Two of those involved strangulation,” Pabst said. “There was one partner or family member assault involving a pregnant victim and another partner or family member assault that involved pushing a victim out of a moving vehicle. There was also one stalking case. We filed two non-family related violent assaults. One was an assault case and the other was three counts of assault with a weapon. In that case, the defendant allegedly threatened staff at the Poverello Center.”

Pabst said her office also filed two sex crimes.

“In one, the allegation is that a neighbor sexually assaulted two adult victims,” Pabst said. “In the other, the allegation was sexual abuse of a child. In the property crimes category, we filed five charges. Two of those were criminal mischief for damaging a vehicle. The allegation there is that the defendants keyed and threw a rock through a window of a vehicle, causing extensive damage.”

Finally, there were two burglary cases, three meth cases, and one heroin case. Pabst said crime numbers have been on the rise since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.
