24 year-old Jamie Canada appeared in Missoula Justice Court on Friday afternoon and was placed on $25,000 bond for allegedly being part of a home invasion and shooting incident in February.

Deputy Missoula County Attorney Mac Bloom said Canada, who had been at large since his co-defendant Steven Simpkins was arrested on December 7, was apprehended by Missoula Police at a residence on Old Fort Missoula Road on Thursday evening.

“The affidavit says that there was a shooting at Turner Court where the victim sustained a gunshot wound to the chest,” said Bloom. “It’s alleged that Steven Simpkins and Jamie Canada entered a residence and demanded that the victim open his safe, and during the ensuing robbery slash home invasion, the victim was shot. It is also alleged that he was punched and cut with a sword on the leg.”

Prosecutors and investigators will be interviewing witnesses to determine who actually shot the victim in the chest and then wounded him with a sword in a dispute over drugs that were allegedly stored in a safe.

Canada will make another court appearance in January.
