Montana Lady Griz Basketball has a New Assistant Coach
If you have followed Montana Grizzly and Lady Griz basketball since the mid 90s, then a couple names in here are going to be familiar.
The Lady Griz have announced the hiring of Nathan Covill as the newest member of the coaching staff. Nate replaces Sonya Stokken, who was one of Montana's all-time great players as Sonya Rogers and an assistant coach with the program since 2013. Sonya's husband Evan has accepted a promotion with Montana Rail Link and the family has relocated to Billings.
If the name is familiar, it is because Nate Covill played for the Grizzly basketball team in the 1990s. One of his teammates for several years was current Griz head coach Travis DeCuire. Covill has most recently been an assistant college coach at Willamette in Oregon. He is married to the former Angela Bieber, who played for the Lady Griz from 1994-98 and was part of teams that won 98 games and advanced to the NCAA tournament four times. They have stayed connected with the program by assisting with youth summer basketball camps.
The Covills have longed to return to Missoula for many years and at last it has come to be. They have two daughters who will be attending Hellgate High School. Future Lady Griz, perhaps?
