Only five weeks into the football season, and one Montana Grizzly has already earned weekly recognition a third time.

Our congratulations going out to, we assume a very sore, Montana junior linebacker Dante Olson, who on Monday was named ROOT Sports/Big Sky Conference Defensive Player of the Week for one of the best tackling performances in Big Sky Conference history.

In Saturday's 48-28 win over Cal Poly, Dante recorded an eye-popping 24 tackles (12 solo, 12 assisted). That is just one tackle shy of tying a Montana Grizzly record for one game, and it's just the fourth time in conference history that one player has accounted for 24 or more tackles!

Many of those tackles were of the  bruising, physical variety, as Olsen had to stand up against a powerful Cal Poly running game that ran close to 100 plays on Saturday. It was on Dante to quickly step into gaps and collide head on with running backs who already had heads of steam coming his way.

Great job, Griz on improving to 4-1 and 2-0 in conference on the season. We look forward to seeing you for Homecoming this Saturday, October 6. Kickoff is at 2:00. Scott Gurnsey and I will be on the air at noon with the Statewide Tailgate Show live at the Grizzly Scholarship Association tailgate area.
