Various Missoula Happenings to Liven Up a February Saturday
If cabin fever and a major dose of snow this week have you feeling blue, maybe a nearby outdoor adventure or two might lift your spirits.
We have a few activities happening this Saturday, February 8, that might pique your interest. From stunning flowers to an educational presentation to a Valentine's winter market, they're all sweet treats.
VALENTINE'S DAY FARM MARKET
You are invited to join Turner Farms for their annual Valentines Market, from 1:00 - 3:30 pm. Other local vendors will be on hand with lots of great gifts for your sweetheart or yourself. Turner Farms will have a great selection of locally raised beef, pork or lamb. The Missoula FFA kids will be selling snack packs filled with meat and cheese for your Big Game gatherings on Sunday. The meat products were raised and processed at their school farm in Missoula. And the baby lambs will be out for everyone to see. Exciting and super cute!
Turner Farms is at 3515 South Third Street West.
ANNUAL ORCHID SHOW
Staying on Third Street, Caras Nursery and Five Valleys Orchid Society will be hosting the annual Orchid Show this Saturday from 10:00 am - 5:00 pm. It's free to attend. Judging of the gorgeous entries will begin at 10:00, and during the day there will be experts on hand to offer advice and assistance on how to make your orchids pop! You can even bring in an orchid for replanting.
Caras Nursery is at 2727 South Third Street West.
WINTER STORYTELLING, TRAVELERS' REST STATE PARK
Travelers’ Rest State Park near Lolo will continue its Winter Storytelling Series this Saturday at 11:00 a.m., with a presentation from Hasan Davis about the Lewis and Clark Expedition, told from the perspective of the journey’s enslaved man, York.
Thomas Jefferson’s Corps of Discovery included Captains Lewis and Clark and a crew of 28 men to chart a route from St. Louis to the Pacific Ocean. All the crew but one volunteered for the mission.
Missoula Montana
York, the enslaved man taken on the journey, did not choose to go. York’s contributions to the expedition, however, were invaluable.
Hasan Davis has shared The Journey of York more than 500 times in the past 25 years and feels blessed to continue bringing his unique experience to audiences across the nation.
Admission to the storytelling programs is $5 per person and free for members of Travelers’ Rest Connection and those under 18.
