New Album From One Of The Biggest Bands: Hear It In Missoula
When I think of big bands that are quintessentially 'Missoula,' a few come to mind.
Nirvana and Pearl Jam feel very 'Missoula' for their grunge and punk vibes (not to mention Pearl Jam's local connection) but I think I'd have to throw Green Day in the mix too. Missoula has some history with Green Day, and Missoula's activist tendencies seem to line up with Green Day's activist tendencies, too.
Remember When Green Day Came to Missoula?
It wasn't at Washington Grizzly Stadium or the Wilma. Back in July of 1991 Green Day performed at the Union Club (Union Hall). In the bootleg video below, you'll hear Billie Joe Armstrong ask how to pronounce Missoula before launching into "I Was There."
'American Idiot' Rock Opera Performed in Missoula
Over 20 years later and after the release of the influential album 'American Idiot', Missoula had another Green Day performance of sorts. The musical of the album 'American Idiot,' which won two Tonys and a Grammy Award, was performed by the University of Montana Theater & Dance Program in April of 2018.
Global Listening Event in Missoula
Flash forward. Fresh off a New Year's Eve performance, with a dash of controversy, the band Green Day are gearing up to release their newest album, 'Saviors' with a global listening party. A peek at the events and you'll see that the only place to listen in Montana is at a Missoula record store.
Ear Candy Music is hosting a listening party where you'll not only get a chance to hear the album before it drops on January 19, but there's also fun, exclusive swag like lyric books, pins, posters, and shirts.
WHEN: January 13, 5:00pm
WHERE: Ear Candy Music 624 South Higgins Ave Missoula, MT
With Missoula getting some big acts in 2024 at Washington Grizzly Stadium, like P!nk and Tyler Childers, wouldn't it be awesome if Green Day did a stop during their 2024 tour? We can hope.
Learn about the Green Day global listening event or find vinyl at Ear Candy Music.
