A Few Pics From My Visit to the New Missoula WinCo
My six-year-old never wants to go to the grocery store. If either my wife or I are headed to the store on our own - my daughter will always opt to stay at home with whichever one of us didn't go. I remember when I was growing up - my sister and I loved going the grocery store with our mom! We couldn't wait for Sunday when it was grocery day. With the opening of the new Missoula WinCo on Reserve St......I'm wondering if I've cracked the case on what the difference is between my daughter and myself when I was a kid.
The answer may lie in the bulk products! All the different options of bulk candy can be mesmerizing for a grade schooler. I remember mixing and matching the different combinations and having so many types to choose from. It was why my sister and I soldiered through the boring parts of grocery shopping - just to have our weekly moment of glory in the bulk department.
I drive past the new WinCo building on my way to work and back everyday. The parking lot was insane with their grand opening yesterday. I went by twice and I would be shocked if there were more than 5 open spaces at either time. It was crazy! I decided to stop in today to see what all the excitement was about.
The first thing I noticed is how huge the store feels. More than once I thought about how it felt so much bigger than the ShopKo ever did. The aisles were fully stocked and every box, bag, package, and container were placed perfectly on the shelf. All areas of the store felt big and had a ton of options. There were different spots in the store where you could get fresh sushi or hot pizza made to order. And there it was.....in all its glory.....a big ol' section of bulk products!
I think Missoula can finally breathe a sigh of relief. We should all be set with the supply of toilet paper they have on hand!
I didn't spend a great deal of time in the store but it definitely felt like I could wander around for hours and continue to discover things for the first time. It really is pretty massive for a grocery store. I'll be back soon - if for nothing else - I need to show my six-year-old the bulk section!
