Troops Deploying Wednesday To Afghanistan

DETACHMENT 1, BRAVO COMPANY OF THE

189^TH AVIATION SUPPORT BRIGADE TO DEPLOY

Helena, Mont. –

Approximately 60 Soldiers of the Montana

Army National Guard’s Detachment 1, Bravo Company of the 189^th

General Support Aviation Brigade (Nevada) are slated to head to their

mobilization station for deployment.  The Soldiers and six CH-47 Chinook

helicopters are scheduled to depart the Army Aviation Support Facility here on

Wednesday, February 29^th at 9 a.m.

The Montana Soldiers will join the remainder of Bravo Company and 189^th Brigade,

headquartered in Reno, Nevada, at their mobilization station at Fort Hood,

Texas.   Two months of  final pre-deployment training are required before finally heading to Afghanistan to provide CH-47 Chinook helicopter aviation support in Regional Command-South and Regional Command-East. While in Afghanistan, the battalion

will maintain and fly about a dozen aircraft, with missions mainly consisting of transporting troops and supplies. The public is invited and

encouraged to attend the departure ceremony.
