A man dressed in black with a "scruffy" beard was seen escaping from a home on Stanley Street this morning and Missoula Police are still searching for a suspect.

The burglary was reported at around 6:25 a.m. today, February 24.

"Officers responded to what was reported as a burglary in progress in the 1500 block of Stanley up in a Rattlesnake subdivision," said Missoula Police Public Information Officer Travis Welsh. "The officers quickly established a perimeter and began a search after clearing the house to ensuring that no one was in it. It was quickly discovered that the suspect had broken the containment and fled."

Eye witnesses were able to offer a brief description of the suspect.

"The witnesses who called it in were actually house sitting and discovered the man in the residence," Welsh said. "There is no indication that the person was armed or threatened anyone with a weapon or anything like this. They said he was a male in his 30s, had a scruffy beard, smelled of alcohol, and was dressed all in black."

The suspect is believed to have headed west on Stanely Street.
