Blake Shelton may have just gotten a leg up on the new season of The Voice, as Brad Paisley is on board to serve as an advisor to Team Blake this year.

People confirms Paisley is joining the hit reality singing competition for its upcoming ninth season. He will work with Shelton's picks to prepare them for the Battle Rounds after the Blind Auditions are finished.

"He's really been good to me, and so the fact that I was able to get him here and and advise my team made perfect sense to me because he was actually a mentor for me," Shelton tells People.

"If you know anything about country music, you know who Brad Paisley is. He's Entertainer of the Year. He's Male Vocalist of the Year. He's sold millions of albums, and sold out tours," he reiterates. "He's just one of the more respected singers, and just people in the music industry and Nashville.”

Paisley has reportedly served as more than just an advisor to Shelton. “Brad was a good friend to Blake, and it was great for Blake to have him there — especially considering everything Blake is going through," an unnamed source tells Us Weekly. Shelton and Miranda Lambert announced their divorce on July 20, and Shelton returned to work on the set of The Voice just days later.

Paisley is no stranger to reality singing competitions, having served on the panel of judges on ABC's Rising Star in 2014. He joins a long line of stars from across genres who have shared their advice with young hopefuls on The Voice, including Lionel Richie, Ellie Goulding, Meghan Trainor, Stevie Nicks, Gavin Rossdale and Alicia Keys.
