Just before 8:30 a.m. on Friday, Missoula police officers responded to the report of a disturbance in a vehicle. The vehicle was in a parking lot in the 4000 block of Highway 10 west. Police Public Information Officer Travis Welsh explains.

“According to the report, witnesses reported to 911 that they had observed a male striking a female who was in the driver’s seat while he was in the passenger seat. He also apparently banged her head off of the steering wheel. As the officers approached, they were advised that the vehicle was now leaving the parking lot. One officer noted that he observed the vehicle pull out of the parking lot and onto Highway 10 west heading westbound.”

The officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop, but the vehicle exited Highway 10 and eventually came to a stop.

“At that point, the male passenger jumped out of the vehicle and fled on foot,” Welsh said. “Once the officers determined that the 25-year-old female in the vehicle did not need immediate medical attention and that she did not represent a threat to the officers, they gave chase to the male who was subsequently identified as 38-year-old Anthony Gonzalo.”

Gonzalo was chased into an open field and he was finally apprehended by two officers. According to Welsh, Gonzalo now faces a handful of charges.

“Gonzalo has two prior convictions for domestic related offenses, making this one his third,” Welsh said. “By state statute, a third offense is in fact a felony. He was also arrested for obstructing a peace officer, resisting arrest, outstanding warrants, and violations of conditions of release for prior pending charges.”

A little over a month ago, Gonzalo was arrested for allegedly attempting to hide meth in a City Hall bathroom. He was arrested for drug related charges back in March as well.
