Wanted Man Arrested at Missoula Park for Drug Offenses
Missoula, MT (KGVO-AM News) - On August 21st, a Missoula Police Department officer attempted to locate 41-year-old Bucky Smith so he could serve a warrant for his arrest. The officer spoke with an employee of the Johnson Street Shelter, who informed him that Smith may be at the nearby Montana Rail Link Park. Another officer was dispatched to the location and the two observed Smith sitting under a small pavilion.
At Smith’s feet was a glass pipe that contained brown and white residue. Officers knew from their training and experience that this type of pipe and residue is consistent with smoking methamphetamine. When asked, Smith admitted to taking “a couple totes”. The officers then placed Smith under arrest for the warrant.
Also in close proximity to Smith was a red container that contained a torn baggy with a clear crystalline substance in it. The officer knew from his training and experience that this substance was consistent with methamphetamine.
Smith was read his Miranda rights and he stated that he understood. Then the officer asked him what the substance was and Smith said it was CBD oils. Smith also admitted that he believed the substance was what he smoked earlier.
Smith was also in possession of a bag that he consented to a search of. Inside the bag were two syringes, two butane refills, a butane torch, some tin foil, and another small bag of suspected methamphetamine. The officer also found a “snort kit” that contained instructions on how to snort a substance, as well as a plastic razor blade, a straw, and a plastic spoon in the shape of a shovel.
