Man Threatens Multiple People With a Gun in Downtown Missoula

Missoula, MT (KGVO-AM News) - On October 29, 2022, at approximately 7:07 p.m., a person called 911 to report that she observed a vehicle with a surfboard on top and a temporary registration tag weaving in traffic. She said the vehicle stopped at the intersection of Brooks and South.  

The driver of the vehicle exited and approached a vehicle behind her. She then saw the driver pull up his shirt and expose something in his waistband. She described the driver as a black male with blond dreadlocks. 

Later that night, at around 10:11 p.m., a person reported that he saw a male in the alleyway behind a bar in downtown Missoula. He said the male approached him and asked him if he could guess what he had in his bag. The male then told the person that he had a gun in his bag and bullets. Police Public Information Officer Lydia Arnold picks up the story.

“The victim stated the male, who matched the same description as the first call, made a comment about having a gun and enough bullets to kill the whole city,” Arnold said. “The Missoula Police Department received another call from a different local bar for a male pointing a gun at patrons. The description of the male matched the male described in the prior two 911 calls.” 

A manager at the bar reported that a male, later identified as 24-year-old Moses Manning, had pointed a gun at bouncers and other people in the bar. The male was described as African American with black and gold dreadlocks.  

One witness in the bar reported that Manning pulled a gun on a female because she had bumped into him. She said that Manning was being aggressive and she was trying to get him to leave. Manning followed her toward the exit when a person pushed Manning. Manning got really mad, pointed a gun at the person, and ran away. 

“The male had left when officers arrived, but they took numerous statements from those involved and witnesses,” Arnold said. “Officers located the vehicle with the male, Moses Manning, in the same vehicle he had been seen driving in the first 911 call. During the traffic stop, officers could see a large handgun, with a large drum magazine inserted in the gun, visible in the car. During the contact, Manning made comments about being in the bar with the gun. Manning made another comment about taking the gun out. Manning was taken into custody without additional incident.” 

According to court documents, Manning denied pointing the gun at anyone. He gave permission to retrieve the weapon, which had a bullet in the chamber and 48 other rounds in the magazine. 

Manning is currently being charged with two felony counts of assault with a weapon.
