Drunk Driver’s Dangerous Escapade in Missoula Ends in Arrest
Missoula, MT (KGVO-AM News) - On September 26, 2024, at around 8:40 PM, a Missoula Police Department officer was patrolling in the area of the Missoula County Detention Center and observed a vehicle driving well above the speed limit, which the officer estimated to be approximately 90 to 100 mph. The officer turned on his lights and began to initiate a traffic stop. The driver of the vehicle was later identified as 18-year-old Shadyn Moses.
Moses began to flee eastbound on Mullan. He left his lane of travel and started passing vehicles, forcing them to the side of the roadway to avoid a collision. Moses then began driving into the oncoming traffic lane as he approached the intersection of Mullan and Broadway. According to court documents, Moses ran a red light at that intersection and a silver SUV had to slam on their brakes to avoid a serious T-Bone style collision.
As Moses was traveling on Birch, he continued at a high rate of speed and failed to stop at a stop sign. At this same time, a silver truck was traveling south on Russell and again had to aggressively apply their brakes to avoid a collision.
Eventually, Moses entered an alleyway, came to an abrupt stop, and opened his door. As Moses attempted to exit, the officer drew his firearm and began giving Moses commands. Once additional officers arrived, Moses was ordered out of the vehicle and he complied.
In speaking with Moses, the officer noted his speech was slurred and he had a strong odor of alcohol omitting from his person. The officer asked Moses if he would consent to the horizontal gaze nystagmus(HGN) test, which he indicated he would. Moses only agreed to participate in two of the three portions of the HGN and the officer observed 4/6 indicators of impairment during that time.

The officer then read Moses the PAST Advisory and Moses refused a breath sample. Moses was then read the Implied Consent Advisory and he stated he would provide a breath sample. Once at the detention center, Moses provided a breath sample of .118 BAC.
Moses is currently being charged with two counts of felony criminal endangerment, DUI, and fleeing from a peace officer. His bond was set at $50,000.
