Another Bump at the Pump in Montana

Missoula, MT (KGVO-AM News) - Average gas prices in Montana have increased in 25 out of 35 weeks. Prices barely dropped last week and barely increased this week. Patrick De Haan is the head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, and he provided the current numbers. 

“Average gasoline prices in Montana have risen 0.6 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $3.24 per gallon today,” De Haan said. “Prices in Montana are  unchanged versus a month ago and stand 17.7 cents per gallon lower than a year ago.”     

As of Monday morning, many stations in Missoula still had their prices set to around $3.24 per gallon.

According to GasBuddy price reports, the cheapest station in Montana was priced at $2.88 per gallon yesterday, while the most expensive was $4.19 per gallon.     

Montana is currently ranked 14th in U.S. when it comes to the average price of gas, which is one spot higher than last week.      

"The national average price of gasoline has fallen 3.4 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $3.15 per gallon today,” De Haan said. “The national average is up 1.6 cents per gallon from a month ago and stands 13.1 cents per gallon lower than a year ago. The national average price of diesel has increased 1.4 cents in the last week and stands at $3.67 per gallon.”

With the unofficial end of summer now behind us, De Haan said we saw the lowest national average price of gasoline on Labor Day since 2020, with prices lower than a year ago in all but three states.  

“This caps off the most affordable summer at the pump since 2021, with motorists spending $11.3 billion less on gasoline compared to last year,” said De Haan. “While summer may be in the rearview mirror, low gas prices aren’t going anywhere anytime soon. In fact, so long as we avoid major hurricanes or other disruptions, we’re on solid footing to see the national average dip to $2.99 per gallon this fall.”
