Montana’s Night Skies Promising For Stunning Meteor Viewing
There have been some pretty amazing skies in Montana lately. It seems like there have been more chances to see the lights recently, and they haven't disappointed. Looking at pictures from across the state has been impressive this year. You can see some of the pictures below.
Another celestial event is currently happening, and if the skies cooperate, it could be quite a sight. The Orionid meteor shower is currently happening. Montana saw the "Hunter's Moon" back on October 17th so as the moon gets dimmer in the night you may have a better chance to see the shower.
According to EarthSky.org, the Orionid shower should last until November 22nd. With dark skies, you should be able to see 10 to 20 meteors per hour. You will want to orient to the top of the Orion constellation for the best views. A lot of viewing is going to be dependent on the weather.
The forecast for Western Montana for the next week, according to the National Weather Service, is calling for cloudy skies and a chance of rain for Wednesday, but after that, we may see some partly cloudy skies through the weekend. If you have a chance to get out of town and get to some of the dark sky places you will have a chance to see the meteor shower.
