Explore Family-Friendly Hellgate Gem and Mineral Show This Weekend

The weather this weekend may not be the best for outdoor activities, but that doesn't mean there aren't other events for the family happening.

With St. Patrick's Day events planned for the weekend, there is still a chance to find some 'Luck of the Irish' at the Hellgate Mineral and Gem Society's Show taking place this weekend.

Montana has some amazing minerals and gemstones. The most popular are the Yogo Sapphires, that are found in Western Montana. According to Marksdiamonds.com, British businessmen controlled the Yogo mines for years. That has led to speculation that there are possibly sapphires from Montana in the British royal crown and Princess Diana's engagement ring. According to Wikipedia, those claims are labeled "dubious".

Regardless of whether some of Montana's gemstones have or haven't made it across the pond to royalty, there are plenty here for the rest of us. This weekend, there is an opportunity for fans of minerals and gems to see some beautiful pieces at the Hellgate Mineral Society's Gem Show.

The show will be held at the Hilton Garden Inn on North Reserve. The hours are 9 a.m.-6 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m.-5 p.m. on Sunday. Admission is $5 for adults and kids 14 and under get in for free.
