Multiple outlets have confirmed that former Montana Grizzly and NBA star Michael Ray Richardson passed away this week at age 70.


   


 

 

Richardson played for the Montana Grizzlies from 1974-1978 under legendary head coach Hud Heathcote. Richardson's Grizzlies made the 1975 NCAA tournament and defeated Utah State in the first round 69-63, and won the Big Sky Regular Season Championship in his Senior year in 1977-1978.

He finished second on the all-time leading scorers list at UM. After his Grizzly days, Richardson had a great career in the NBA with the Knicks, Nets, and Warriors. He was drafted by the Knicks, where he was a 3x all-star in 4 seasons. He played less than one season with Golden State in 1982-1983 before playing for the New Jersey Nets for his final 4 years. He didn't play in 1986-1987 thanks to a year-long suspension
