This Day In Griz History: Lady Griz Pull Off A Huge NCAA Tournament Upset
Montana upsets Wisconsin.
Wouldn't that be sweet to hear this Thursday afternoon when the Montana Grizzlies Men's Basketball team attempts to take down the Wisconsin Badgers?
Well, that's what happened 33 years ago today (March 18).
On this day in Griz history, the Lady Griz knocked off the Wisconsin Badgers in the 6 vs 11 matchup in the 1992 first round of the NCAA Women's Tournament 85-74.
Adding to the impressive victory, Montana pulled off the upset on the home floor of the Big 10's Badgers.

The Lady Griz were led by Shannon Cate (Schweyen) with an impressive 34 points, and 11 rebounds double-double. Technically, Cate registered a triple-double with 34-11 and 10 turnovers, but we don't count the last part.
Jodi Hinrichs went for 14 points and 8 rebounds. Carla Beattie poured in 10 points off the bench.
It was Montana's 4th time winning an NCAA Tournament game and one of the last times the Lady Griz did so.
After the opening-round upset of Wisconsin, Montana's season came to an end in the West Regional second round against #3 USC. The Trojans were led by Tammy Story's 26 points and some player named Lisa Leslie.
This Thursday, the men's team will look for some of that same magic against the Wisconsin Badgers.
It would be fitting, wouldn't it?
