At the three Region 2 check stations in Anaconda, Bonner and Darby, over 8,722 hunters have checked through with one week remaining in the general Montana big game hunting season. Looking at the weekend report from the Darby check station, Fish, Wildlife and Parks reports 3,478 hunters, the most since 2015. So far, 149 elk, 71 white-tailed deer and 35 mule deer were checked through. The elk harvest was similar to the last two years. FWP officials say that snow expected this week could improve tracking conditions and move some of the wildlife lower out of the hills. And a reminder, hunters must stop at check stations, whether they are successful in their hunts or not. The season ends Sunday evening, December 1.
