Governor Steve Bullock and Montana Senator Jon Tester were among the dignitaries who attended the official groundbreaking ceremony for the new Southwest Montana Veterans Home in Butte July 2. Sen. Tester said, "It's an honor to break ground on a project that's been three decades in the making."

The $20 million facility is on Blacktail Loop near Mount Highland Drive in Butte and includes five 12-bedroom cottages with a community center. The capacity will be 60 veterans, with services including support groups, therapy and rehab services and more. Former Montana Legislator Bob Pavlovich proposed the idea in 1993. Also attending were Montana DPHHS Director Sheila Hogan, Montana Legislators Jon Sesso and Jim Keane, Butte-Silver Bow Chief Executive Dave Palmer and others. Montana DPHHS is currently accepting applications for admission to the facility. Check their website.
