Gretchen Wilson on Her Arrest: ‘The Truth Shall Prevail’
In a statement posted to her Facebook and Twitter pages, the "Redneck Woman" hitmaker thanked fans for their patience, calling the events "unfortunate."
She adds that she can't discuss any specifics, because it's an open case, but that: "I would like to respect the process, and am confident that the truth shall prevail."
Authorities say the 45-year-old Wilson was arrested after a "minor disturbance" on a plane. She was charged with breach of peace at the Bradley International Airport in Windsor Locks, Ct.
“While interviewing the accused on the jetway, she became belligerent toward the troopers and caused a disturbance,” a police report reveals. TMZ says the disturbance was over the airplane's bathroom. Wilson and another passenger were both headed for the bathroom, and when the other passenger got there first, an altercation ensued and became physical.
Wilson was scheduled to play the Mohegan Sun Casino the next day, and updates at the casino's Twitter account indicate the show happened as scheduled, although it was a private event.
The Grammy winner and 2005 CMA Female Vocalist of the Year notched five Top 10 hits in 2004 and 2005 before losing a foothold at country radio. Her most reason album is called Ready to Get Rowdy (2017). Wilson has a 17-year-old daughter named Grace.
Responses to Wilson's tweet were overwhelmingly positive, with fans showing understanding and love to the country music veteran.
