
Bitterroot Outdoor Journal – Turkey Vultures Above
Fall hawk watching is in full swing as the migration season begins. Bob Danley at KLYQ's Bitterroot Outdoor Journal has ID tips on a regular flyer over Hamilton - the turkey vulture (see photo above). It's mostly dark, with short flared tail and soars without much flapping. When you look close, you'll see the red, featherless head. It's a turkey vulture, all right. (see photo below)

Bob saw more butterflies this past week, including lots of Pine White butterflies hatching in the Bass Creek area. They have about a two inch wingspan and are floating around pine trees. Dragonflies in the Bitterroot include more Meadowhawk beauties (see photo below) with bright red, orange and yellow colors on the Band-winged Meadowhawk males and females.
