OK, they're pretty ugly. But I think they're cool! Ant lions eat ants. In the picture below it's hard to tell, but they're only about twice the size of the ants they eat. Ant lions create holes in soft, powdery dirt and wait for an unsuspecting ant to come along and fall in the funnel shaped hole. They they start flinging dirt on the ant so it can't escape. When the time is right, they grab the ant with their tweezer-like pinchers and pull the ant under the dirt and it's dinner time! In the video below, I place an ant in the hole and watch...
